It is our policy at Grace Academy Preschool to discipline first by setting up our room and activities to eliminate problems. When a problem does arise, we can often solve it by merely appearing on the scene- such as sitting by the child. Also holding or a hug can quickly dissolve an angry temper.
On the occasion that a disruptive behavior continues to reoccur, a time-out away from the activity is required. The child is usually required to stay in time-out for 5 minutes or until the activity is completed. At that time, he/she is asked if they are ready to follow the rules and join us. When disruptive behavior continues and none of these actions seem to be effective, the parent is consulted and we try to come to a mutual plan of action.
